Small country of great attractions

Sri Lanka

so many BEAUTIFUL names for one country

  • „Cejlon”

  • „Island of the Jewels”

  • "Tear of India”

  • „Pearl of the Indian Ocean”

The magic of this island is a climate where its peculiar character makes it possible to visit it all year round. Wonderful nature and scenic landscapes will make you feel like in a paradise garden. Wonderful long beaches, palm trees and sunshine guarantee a pleasant holiday.

This country can entertain everyone. People are friendly and always smiling. It is an ideal country for people seeking an original, warm and safe holiday. In Ceylon no one will be bored.

Are you dreaming of an exotic journey? – this place created for you.

Somehow we have to get there ...

So the question is - how?
The direct distance between Warsaw and Colombo is 7,300 km. So the question is - how to get there? If you do not count the cruise ships to the island you can only get by plane. As far as Sri Lanka to the most expensive countries do not belong, unfortunately tickets to her already so cheap are not. So what options do we have?

In pursuit of the sun

That is the climate we have

Sri Lanka is an ideal place for those who love the heat and the sunshine. There is always the sun shining, it only depends on which part of the country you are. Regardless of the season, there will always be a place on the coast where the beaches are dry and the sun shines. I can say from my own experience that the weather in Sri Lanka likes to play tricks and sometimes can get really wet when the theory should absolutely not rain. This is the weather - you have no influence on it - so enjoy what it is. The prize for heavy rains is beautiful green
and sea of flowers. Something for something.

There is a tropical climate, very moist. The average temperature in the lowlands is 26 – 30 degrees Celsius and in the mountains 15 – 20 degrees Celsius, air humidity 70%. nights
The mountains are sometimes really cool, especially in December and January, where frost may even appear.

My observations – not only do Europeans sweat mercilessly – indigenous people have the same problem when it gets damp and windless.

In Sri Lanka there are no distinct seasons, just like in Europe. The climate of the island is influenced by two summer and winter monsoons – winds bringing tropical, intense rays, which usually last about 10 to 20 minutes but sometimes also last for several days.

When traveling to Sri Lanka it is important to remember that when it rains in the north and east, the sun is shining in the south and west and vice versa. Rain does not disturb
Visiting if there are no floods.

In short, Sri Lanka is a year-round destination. The best season for a holiday on the north and east coast is between May and September and the south and west coasts are between December and March. We must take into account that it is nature and sometimes monsumes “will be late”.

What’s next … so visa and insurance

You already have the tickets to stay on the island you do not worry because the route we have a jointly agreed, Leo has booked accommodation and the driver Leo Tur will be waiting for you at the airport so ask what formalities are still necessary to settle?

First

Visa

If you want to enter Sri Lanka you must buy a visa.
There are two options.
The first is to buy it at the airport at Colombo (it is more expensive by 5 USD).
The second, recommended by me, is the use of the Sri Lankan online visa system www.eta.gov.lk - cost 35 USD. It is a double entry visa and allows you to stay in the island for 30 days.
The passport should be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of departure. Tourists must have a return ticket. The last time I wait for a visa after the application is two minutes. Congratulations to the system.
On the plane or at the airport we also fill out an Arrival Card application. Children up to 12 years of age receive a visa free of charge.

Secondly

Insurance and health

Wherever you go for longer you should have standard insurance, but do not include extreme sports and if you are passionate it is worth extending insurance (eg when you dive). When leaving Sri Lanka, there is no compulsory vaccination, but it is recommended that for any further travel, vaccination against jaundice type A and B, tetanus, typhoid
and diphtheria. It is worth vaccinating to think ahead because they are not cheap and well cost to spread out over time. Consoling is that they have sometimes a lifetime of a few years. It is worth setting up the International Book of Immunization because there are all our vaccines registered there, and they are official documents confirming the vaccination. It can be obtained at travel medicine clinics.
All essential medicines are available in pharmacies throughout the country, but you should always have the basic medication first aid kit with you.
every day, painkillers, basic dressings and something for insect bites. I admit that unfortunately mosquitoes love me so I always take with me
Travel Mugga spray preparation. Just heat with the memory to use it.

And finally, some useful information

Language
The language you can communicate here is Sinhala (I'm just trying to teach it and honestly speaking - it's not easy)
and Tamil. Do not be afraid the driver Leo Tur will talk to you in English as well
and some of the islanders who are trying to master this language although in the basic version.
Time zone
Time difference between Poland and Sri Lanka in winter
It's 4 hours 30 minutes ahead and in the summer time is 3 hours 30 minutes.
Currency
- The currency of Sri Lanka is the LKR of Sri Lanka.
The course in July 2017 is:
1 PLN – 41.82 LKR
1 USA – 153,85 LKR
1 EUR – 176.32 LKR
Duty
Existing customs regulations do not depart from generally accepted standards.
You can bring up to two bottles of vodka or three bottles of wine and one carton of cigarettes on the island. It is good to do alcohol shopping in the duty free zone after customs clearance at Colombo Airport, because the spirits on the island are much more expensive.
Electricity
Network voltage on the island is 230 - 240 V, 50 Hz but in practice it is sometimes lower. There are power outages but hotels generally have generators.
In Sri Lanka, there are several types of plugins: D type with three round pins, type G version with three rectangular pins and a European plug-in version, with a third pin in the middle that can be unlocked (at your own risk). In stores, the adapter costs about $ 1.
Internet
The 3G and 4G internet is available practically all over the island.
At the airport you should buy a SIM card. Depending on the operator it is costing up to US $ 10 plus a data package. The internet on the island is cheap 5 GB it costs about 6 USD. It does not just come into contact with the country but also to contact the island eg with drivers, with hotels. Internet hotels are different, often only available in the reception lobby, and they work very well, but sometimes we find the opposite - it is very slow or not at all. Therefore better to count on your own.

Danger

Sri Lanka is one of the safest countries in the world. Always on every trip should be common sense and not brag about expensive equipment
and a thick wallet.

“Opportunity makes a thief.”

Baggage transported by means of public transport is rather safe and does not attract the attention of the thieves and the Langer themselves warn tourists when they see a threat.
In the hotel rooms you can use the safe if available. In the crowd, like
In every country in the world, pickpockets may be prowling. In Sri Lanka there is no obligation to carry a passport with you so it is a good idea to deposit it in a safe place. Be careful of the constrictors. Our guests from Leo Tur will not have these problems because the driver is also a kind of protection against predators.

We all remember the tsunami of 2004 but the tsunami according to the chronicle happens on average once every 2000 years, so statistics speak for themselves, we should not be afraid. Locally
There may be floods during the rainy season, but you can always change the itinerary. There are currently no terrorist threats on the island. Care should be taken when traveling to the north-east of the country where the mine is still being cleared.
