At this point I also wanted to explain where the idea for the name “Sapphire Island” came from.

We associate the sapphire color with the blue of the sky, the azure of the sea, all the shades of blue or holiday.
However, not every one of us knows that Sri Lanka is a country known for precious stones for centuries.
Beautiful multicolored sapphires, rubies, amethysts, tourmalines, pomegranates, aquamarines, topazes, moonstones are extracted. The main place of extraction and trade in precious stones are the area around the city of Ratnapura located about 100 kilometers southeast of the capital of Sri Lanka – Colombo. A famous sapphire “Blue Belle of Asia” comes from Sri Lanka. This is a 400-carat sapphire extracted from river sediments in 1926. It is very closely protected.
